The world’s first Quantum PUF (Physically Unclonable Function) Q-ID
Quantum-ID’s (Q-IDs) are nanoscale devices that bring the latest technology and science together to deliver a level of security and authentication that has until very recently been unachievable. Q-IDs can provide keys and authentication to secure systems unlike any other device on the market today. They comprise state-of-the-art nanomaterials, the smallest material system possible, to deliver a truly unique and secure solution whose architecture guarantees 100% unclonability and thus, 100% security. The track-and-trace capability of the Q-ID allows supply chain management, and the ability to turn the devices off or on anywhere within the supply chain. Each Q-ID has its own unique identity enabling end-user engagement, and secure two-way authentication with consumers.
The rapid advance of modern technology means we are living in a world that is more connected than ever before. Day-to-day tasks are routinely completed by computers and other machines without the need for user involvement; for example, mainstream production lines, checking of chip-and-pin at an ATM, and validation of secure entry cards, are all done automatically. The legitimacy and reliability of each and every digital device or machine terminal used in these areas is therefore highly critical. The principle technology looking to resolve these issues is known as a physically unclonable function, or PUF, which is frequently based on silicon electronics. The problem with this technology is that the device characteristics are clonable due to the macroscopic size of the components involved, rendering their security redundant or “hackable”.
To this end, Quantum Base has invented and developed the only truly secure solution for proof of authenticity, the Q-ID – a fundamentally unclonable device delivering the next generation of hardware based security that is 100% secure.
Q-ID’s are unclonable and totally secure. Keys are derived from easy to measure quantum properties of the device, which depend on the positions of millions of atoms – the fundamental building blocks of matter. Furthermore, due to the size of each device, far smaller than a hair’s width, the resources required for an authentication procedure are minimal and thus the devices can operate at ultra-low power. The secrets held within the Q-ID are volatile, so there is no need for additional memory or any other components and our security is based on atom level hardware, which prevents the system from being hacked.
Here at Quantum Base, we offer two versions of the Q-ID depending on what the customer requirements are, either an electronic version (eQ-ID) or an optical version (oQ-ID).
The Optical version is the perfect solution to the counterfeiting or authentication problem. It provides an unclonable, robust system that can be measured using a smart phone and a cheap filter simply at any point throughout the supply chain. Unlike most anti-counterfeiting technologies and certainly none at this price point, the Q-ID has the ability to be ‘turned off’ at any point during the supply chain, a desirable property should a batch of products be lost or stolen.
