Counterfeit power tools are flooding global markets, targeting trusted brands with unrealistically low prices. The Power Tool Institute (PTI) warns that these imitation drills, saws and batteries not only undermine brand reputation, but also endanger users, since they are rarely tested or certified by accredited safety bodies.
These imitation tools also often appear identical to genuine products, making visual inspection unreliable. They frequently fail to meet global safety standards such as UL (Underwriters Laboratories), CE (Conformité Européenne) or ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation), leading to:
- Electric shock or fire from substandard components.
- Mechanical failure under load.
- Non-compliance with occupational safety regulations.
- Environmental harm from poor-quality batteries.
- Damage to brand trust and customer safety.
This global trade in counterfeit tools and machinery is estimated to cost billions annually, making secure authentication a necessity – not an option.
